The Plan

As a Fellow in the Section of Family Planning & Contraception in the department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, IL, I was given the amazing opportunity to travel to Rwanda. As a result of previous work by my mentors Dr. Jack Sciarra and Dr. Cassing Hammond in combination with our colleagues Dr. Diljeet Singh and Dr. William Banzhaf, I will get to participate in the implementation of a nationwide family planning strategy for the most densely populated country in Africa. I will be teaching gynecology, family planning & contraception to medical students at the National University of Rwanda (NUR), the Central Hospital in Kigali (CHK) and learning more than I can ever teach. I will also be working with IntraHealth International who are leading Twubakane Decentralization and Health Program. You can read more about Twubakane at http://www.intrahealth.org/projects/19

Though I will be working hard to teach and promote modern family planning methods, I expect I will learn more from my time there than anyone will learn from me.
